The Atlantic Coastal Fish Habitat Partnership (ACFHP) works to address the numerous threats impacting Atlantic coastal fish habitats and applauds the implementation of tools, techniques, and approaches to address these habitat threats. The removal of the Cypress Branch Dam (Maryland, USA) will improve fish passage and natural sediment transport by reconnecting 18 miles of upstream habitat and re-establishing a natural downstream channel which will mobilize 3,800-4,100 cubic yards of impounded sediment. These habitats are important for many recreationally and ecologically important fish species including river herring, American shad, yellow perch, and hickory shad.
